June 2024 Overview for Neighborhood Representatives
Two weeks ready means being prepared to fulfill the basic needs of all members of a household for up to fourteen days in the event of service interruptions resulting from a disaster.
These basic needs include water for consumption and hygiene if public water and sewer services are disabled; food that meets basic nutritional needs and can be prepared without a working stove or oven; sanitation supplies in case toilets cannot be flushed; sufficient clothing and bedding in case home heating is disabled; prescription medications and first aid supplies to maintain health and handle injuries; lighting and backup power for devices in case of power interruptions.
While these are the primary considerations for the essentials of living safely, being well prepared for emergencies goes further, including supplies for house pets, changes of clothing, copies of essential financial and insurance documents, and more.
